Maia Sandu: I would be interested in post of head of state

If she returned to politics, former minister of education Maia Sandu would prefer the post of head of state to the idea of creating a new party. Maia Sandu made such a statement in the program “Interpol” on TV 7 channel, IPN reports.

“Only the very rich people can afford to launch new political projects in the Republic of Moldova. I cannot become involved and found a new party. I do not have so much money. In this country, you cannot become involved in a new political project if you do not have enough money. Maintaining a political party is also costly. At least 300,000 lei a month are needed for maintaining the district branches of a party. I cannot cover such costs,” said Maia Sandu.

The ex-minister also said that she is not against running for the post of head of state on condition that this is elected directly, by the people. “I think the post of head of state would interest me more. I would cope with several thousand lei in the election campaign. But the ruling parties do not want the President to be elected directly. They realize that none of them will win the elections,” she stated.

Maia Sandu confessed that she renounced the post of Prime Minister because there was no person in the administration of the National Bank of Moldova together with whom she could do reforms in the financial-banking sector and accused the party that fielded her of the situation witnessed in the country. “The Liberal Democratic Party faces very serious problems and I don’t understand why nothing is done to remedy the situation. The PLDM and PDM are responsible for what is going on in the country,” she said.
