"It is salutary that the judges have begun to argue with each other and want changes in the judiciary, but the way in which the judges' meeting was convened for tomorrow reminds us of the odious practices of the last three to four years." The statement belongs to Prime Minister Maia Sandu and was made with reference to the fact that the Chisinau Court of Appeal ordered the General Assembly of Judges to be convened on Friday, September 27, after a group of judges went to court, IPN reports.
"Lack of transparency, guidance from the shadow, court decisions rendered with the speed of light. These coordinated actions seem to have only one purpose - to block the activity of the CSM. I am not alarmed by your intention to change the composition of the CSM, as long as CSM has honest people who support the reforms CSM will be functional. I am worried about the intention of some to block the activity of the CSM and to block the reforms, implicitly,” said Maia Sandu at a press briefing.
The prime minister has addressed the judges, noting that she understands that most of them do not like what is happening in the judicial system. "I know you have to deal with a few corrupt groups which until recently had political coverage and collaborated with the thieves to control the entire justice system. I know that many of you have to blame the politicians for the state of the judiciary. On Friday, the whole country will watch what you do. Your neighbors, your classmates, your parents and relatives, the people in the villages and cities where you were born will watch what you do. Don't think that we are naive. Citizens understand very well who is who. Citizens see who's on the side of the law and who's on the side of the thieves in the fight you are waging," the chief of the executive noted.
Maia Sandu has also said that judicial reforms will continue, regardless of the efforts to impede them. "We are open to discuss and improve the projects we propose according to good international practices. It is with this view that the Ministry of Justice has started public consultations”, the prime minister said.
The Chisinau Court of Appeal rendered on September 24 a conclusion by which it decided to organize the extraordinary meeting of the General Assembly of Judges on September 27, at 9.00 am, at the Trade Unions House. The Association of Judges mentions that the conclusion aims to implement the decision of the Chisinau Court of Appeal of September 20, by which the Superior Council of Magistracy was obligated to convene the Assembly.
