The Government counts on the European Parliament’s assistance in strengthening the democratic processes in Moldova and hopes the financial and technical assistance programs will be resumed, Premier Maia Sandu stated in a news conference given after a meeting with a delegation of MEPs led by Heidi Hautala, IPN reports.
“We discussed the situation in the Republic of Moldova after the formation of the new Government and spoke about our cooperation priorities for the period ahead,” stated Maia Sandu. She noted she requested the MEPs to provide assistance in investigating the major thefts witnessed by Moldova and in a number of areas that can improve people’s lives.
For her part, Heidi Hautala said the European Parliament fully supports the democratic reforms in the Republic of Moldova and voiced hope that Chisinau will profit from the advantages provided by the Eastern Partnership established by the European Union.
The European official stated she cannot make forecasts about the position of the European Parliament elected this year, but is convinced that the Republic of Moldova will be devoted more attention by the legislature in Brussels.
