Maia Sandu: Honoring the national flag means never forgetting our roots, aspirations and dreams

“Honoring the state flag means always keeping it in our hearts and never forgetting where we started our journey in life, where our roots and memories are, and also our aspirations and dreams”, declared President Maia Sandu at a ceremony dedicated to the National Flag Day.

The President added: “When looking at the flag, people must remember that sovereignty and the right to shape our destiny must be defended by everyone, especially in these troubled times”.

The event was also attended by Prime Minister Dorin Recean and other Cabinet members, as well as by Speaker Igor Grosu. There were performances by the Presidential Orchestra, the Guard of Honor, the Fulger Special Operations Battalion, the Ștefan cel Mare Police Academy and a number of children’s choirs.

“Every year we mark the National Flag Day with the greeting ‘Honor to the Tricolor!’, a greeting that not only celebrates our flag, but also represents a call to contemplation. How do we honor this symbol of our state in our daily life, which is a window both to the past and to the future? How do we show respect for the flag that serves as an anchor and landmark, remembering that together we can overcome any obstacle? The answer is simple – let’s respond not only once a year, but every day to the call to unity, solidarity and hope that is reflected in the three colors of our flag”, declared Maia Sandu.

The President added that Moldovans should be kind and generous to each other, regardless of the language spoken or everyone’s beliefs, regardless of whether they are from the north, the center or the south. “Let us respect and honor the memory of our ancestors, those who fought for the Tricolor to fly throughout the territory of the Republic of Moldova”.

“When looking at the Tricolor, everyone needs to remember the values that define us – the desire for freedom and good understanding, the love for our land, the attachment to our culture and traditions. Every time we look at the Tricolor, let’s be proud of what we’ve managed to achieve and be confident in our power to add one more brick every day to the construction of a European Moldova, which will offer new peace, prosperity and security to everyone”, Maia Sandu added.

The blue-yellow-red tricolor was declared the National Flag of the Republic of Moldova on 27 April 1990 by the first Parliament. In 2010, Parliament declared April 27 as the National Flag Day and also the Day of the National Coat of Arms.
