Maia Sandu hands over state flag to national team at Paris Paralympics

President Maia Sandu has handed over the state flag of the Republic of Moldova to the national team that will compete at the Paralympic Games in Paris. She wished the athletes good luck, noting that they are the people who every day prove that through work, courage and willpower, all the obstacles can be overcome and that there is no impossible where there is perseverance and passion, IPN reports.

At a ceremony held at the Presidential Palace, Maia Sandu said that the athletes already achieved very good results by qualifying for the Paralympic Games, specifying that, regardless of the result they will obtain in Paris, they are awaited to come home in good health. “This year we have spectacular results at the Olympic Games. We have the highest number of medals ever obtained since independence and this makes us proud and encourages us all. And I’m sure it encourages you too. And these medals, first of all, reflect the result of the hard work of these people, of the teams that have supported them over time,” stated the official, wishing the Paralympians to increase this number of medals.



Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun said that this ceremony represents a truly special moment, a moment of national pride, when they will be handed over the flag of the Republic of Moldova which they will carry with honor at the Paralympic Games in Paris. The the flag is not only a symbol of sovereignty, but represents the hopes and aspirations of an entire people, which will accompany the athletes, step by step, on this journey. “In front of us are athletes who have overcome the limits and turned the life challenges into real victories. You are living examples of courage, determination, perseverance. It is not easy to overcome your own limits, but you have shown that nothing is impossible when you have will and passion,” said Dan Perciun. The minister also praised the coaches, saying that they are the ones who, with professionalism and devotion, guided and supported the athletes at each stage of training.



The flag of the Republic of Moldova at the Paralympic Games in Paris will be carried by the president of the National Paralympic Committee, para judo athlete Oleg Crețul. The athlete said the squad is well prepared and can’t wait to get to Paris.

The Republic of Moldova will be represented by five athletes at the Paralympic Games in Paris between August 28 and September 8. The national team will compete in three sports events: para judo, para powerlifting and para athletics.
