He voiced hope that the macro-financial assistance will be soon unlocked as Moldova needs it in the current crisis situation. In a teleconference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, President Sandu, who is in Berlin on an official visit, said that Germany is one of the faithful and trustworthy partners of the Republic of Moldova – investor, developed partner, supporter of the European course, IPN reports.

President Sandu thanked Chancellor Merkel for the support offered to the Republic of Moldova during her tenure and for the assistance that our country received from Germany in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. In this regard, Maia Sandu mentioned the aid that is to be delivered to Moldova the next few weeks following the previous conversation she had with Angela Merkel.

“I and Chancellor Merkel discussed the recognition of the vaccine certificates issued in the Republic of Moldova so as to enable the citizens of our country to travel freely in the European Union. We took stock of the internal situation in the Republic of Moldova, the challenges we faced the past few months and the prospects that can be opened by the snap parliamentary elections and my reform agenda. I bank on the fact that Germany will ensure the citizens of the Republic of Moldova can vote safety in the July 11 elections amid the current pandemic conditions. Missis Chancellor confirmed the intention of her country to deploy observers to the elections as part of the OSCE/ODIHR Mission,” stated Maia Sandu.

The interlocutors also conferred on the negotiations on the recognition and conversion of permits for Moldovan and German citizens. “We appreciate the openness of the German side to manage the circular migration of seasonal workers from Moldova in Germany. The German government is to finish a relevant draft agreement,” said President Sandu.
