Maia Sandu discusses with EU ambassadors

The fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, correct organization of the snap elections and the economic recovery in the Republic of Moldova were the subjects disused today by President Maia Sandu with the 27 ambassadors of EU member states accredited to Chisinau. The videoconference was moderated by the Head of the EU Delegation to the Republic of Moldova Peter Michalko, IPN reports, quoting the presidential press service.

“I thanked the European partners for their generous and rapid support that we enjoyed in the fight against the pandemic and that helped us to better prepare the medical system for managing the crisis, save lives and swiftly launch the national vaccination campaign. The donation to the value of €10 million made by Germany today is the most recent relevant example,” stated Maia Sandu.

The interlocutors also disused the €600 million Economic Recovery Plan for the Republic of Moldova announced by the European Commission last week. “These are important funds that will help stabilize the country’s economy. That’s why we will do our best to access and fully use them. For the purpose, we need to firmly advance in reforming the justice sector and in fighting corruption. On this occasion, I told the EU ambassadors about the concept of the Independent Anticorruption Consultative Committee that was launched three days ago,” said President Sandu.

The ambassadors inquired about the conduct of the campaign prior to the snap parliamentary elections of July 11. Maia Sandu was assured that the EU member states will help organize the voting process for the Moldovans outside the country. Also, European observers will oversee the elections in the Republic of Moldova so that these are free and fair.
