Maia Sandu councilor: A compromise with the Socialists still has chances

Vlad Kulminski, the prime minister's adviser, believes that a compromise with the Socialists still has chances. According to him, Maia Sandu aimed to avoid having the General Prosecutor's Office subservient to politicians, that is why she assumed responsibility for the amendment of the Law on the Prosecutor's Office, submitted by the government. Vlad Kulminski said that the topic can still be discussed over the course of the next few days.

Vlad Kulminski said that the current government's top task was not to admit the capture by special interest groups of the most important state institutions, such as the Prosecutor's Office, the National Anticorruption Center and the Information and Security Service.

"These institutions previously worked for Plahotniuc, carried out his orders and crushed his political opponents. It is crucial for the prime minister not to admit the occurrence of a similar scenario when these institutions are captured by another "Plahotniuc". When she felt that these institutions slipped into the hands of another person, this was completely unacceptable to her. She did not intend to sit and wait to see how the Prosecutor's Office and the CNA are taken over by someone and how these institutions are being used aș during the Plahotniuc regime. This was the prime minister's main task and she accomplished it very well", said the adviser on the RTR Moldova TV show "Piatnița s Anatoliem Golea".

According to the Socialist MP Gaik Vartanean, the Socialists not supporting the government's bill of assuming responsibility to amend the Law on the Prosecutor's Office does not mean that the PSRM does not support the justice reform in general. The Socialist said that he does not understand why the government resorted to this measure, instead of organizing another selection contest for the General Prosecutor position. "We dislike this approach towards the coalition and the parliamentary majority, which should be collegial. Additionally, more people voted for us, the Socialists, than for the ACUM bloc. People do not understand why do we have to believe a person at her word that she can put forward an objective general prosecutor", said Gaik Vartanean.

According to him, this submission of the candidacies to the position of General Prosecutor by the prime minister, as Maia Sandu wants, is a de facto political interference.

On Friday, November 8, the Socialist Party filed a motion of censure as a result of the government assuming responsibility for amending the Law on the Prosecutor's Office.
