The President of the Swiss Confederation Simonetta Sommaruga congratulated the President-elect of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu, noting that her election coincided with the 20th anniversary of Switzerland’s international cooperation with Moldova, IPN reports, quoting the Swiss Cooperation Office.
“I’m especially pleased to get a new colleague in the yet too small circle of women presidents,” says a letter signed by the President of the Swiss Confederation.
Simonetta Sommaruga is confident that the friendly ties between the two countries will continue to deepen, not least in the field of cooperation and trade.
According to the preliminary results of the presidential runoff, PAS candidate Maia Sandu won 57.75% of the vote, while PSRM-backed independent candidate Igor Dodon – 42.25%.
