President Maia Sandu explained why the leader of the separatist administration of the Transnistrian region Vadim Krasnoselsky is not detained at the Chisinau International Airport. According to the head of state, the persons involved in negotiations benefit from immunity and this is a necessary measure to maintain an effective dialogue. The official stressed that Chisinau's priority is to solve the humanitarian problems on the left bank of the Nistru and maintain peace in the region, IPN reports.
"We want the problem to be solved. We are talking about hundreds of thousands of people who stay in the cold and have electricity only a few hours a day," Maia Sandu said in the program "Emphasis on Today" on TVR Moldova channel.
The head of state noted that the objective of the Moldovan government is to keep peace on both banks of the Nistru, and any action that could escalate the situation should be avoided.
"It is a separatist regime, but, if we look at the bigger picture and if we follow the objective we set, which is to keep peace, things are not so simple. We choose what we consider to be more important now for the people and for the people now it is more important to find a solution to the humanitarian crisis and be attentive to the challenges," stated President Sandu.
On January 10, Vadim Krasnoselsky flew to Moscow from the Chisinau International Airport. When back in the Republic of Moldova, the Transnistrian leader announced that he discussed with Russian officials the possibility of supplying gas to the Transnistrian region in the form of humanitarian aid. A few days later, Krasnoselsky announced that Tiraspoltransgaz is ready to buy gas at market prices through Moldovagaz, which will be paid through third-party companies.
