The state institutions didn’t deal with the challenges generated by this elections. The CEC passed over serious and evident violations of the Electoral Code. In some of the cases, the Police and the Prosecutor’s Office ignored the illegal transportation of voters and didn’t stop voter corruption, Maia Sandu stated in a press briefing after the closure of polling stations, IPN reports.
The PAS candidate for President said an insufficient number of polling stations were established abroad so that not all the citizens of the Republic of Moldova could cast their ballots. However, their voice will be heard today. “All the threats, lies and blackmailing to which the citizens were subject by our opponents will return to the authors through vote,” she stated.
Maia Sandu called on all the employees of the state institutions involved in the electoral process to respect and protect the vote of the citizens. It is the responsibility of the state for people’s votes to determine the result of these elections.
She recommended the citizens to wait for the election outcome calmly and appreciated the unprecedented mobilization witnessed today. “I thank all those who voted today. I sincerely thank the people who covered hundreds of kilometers to reach the polling stations and waited in huge lines to be able to vote. We kneel in front of you,” stated the politician, thanking the voters also in Russian.
