The authorities could have at least suggest organizing new elections in the municipality of Chisinau after the court of law didn’t validate the election of the president of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” Andrei Nastase as mayor and the Central Election Commission interrupted the electoral process, the leader of the Party “Action and Solidarity” Maia Sandu was quoted by IPN as saying in the program “Friday with Anatolie Golea” produced by RTR Moldova channel.
The politician said she hoped the power will take into account at least the messages of Moldova’s partners, if not the message of the own people. “They could have at least decide to organize new elections. I cannot say this would have been a correct decision, but the power didn’t want to propose at least something to the people,” stated Maia Sandu. According to her, the recent developments show the government could also nullify the results of other elections when these do not suit it and this is called dictatorship.
Analyst Anatol Taranu said in any other state where the judiciary is independent, such a court decision wouldn’t have caused dissatisfaction in society as the people wouldn’t have doubted the correctness of this decision. “Regrettably, this is not our case as our judicial system is permanently criticized and three is no perception in society that the court judgments in our country are correct,” he stated.
The Central Election Commission (CEC) on June 29 nullified the early mayoral elections held in Chisinau in two rounds, on May 20 and June 3, making reference to irrevocable court decisions that are. The Commission also interrupted the electoral process for the reason that early mayoral elections cannot he held within a year before the ordinary elections planned for 2019.
