“We must remain united. We must be united further. They want to divide us. This is not a protest of political parties. This is not a protest about ideologues. This is the protest of the people of this country. It is the protest of the citizens who deserve a better life,” President-elect Maia Sandu stated before the people who came together in the Great National Assembly Square to protest on December 6. The leader of the Party of Action and Solidary said that ignoring the vote of November 15, Igor Dodon formed a shameful PSRM-Shor majority that consists of thieves and turncoats. This anarchy should be stopped and the only way to achieve this is to organize snap parliamentary elections after the Government’s resignation, IPN reports.
“Our patience is being tested again. After fighting for years against the mafia system, after so many sufferings, after so much time wasted because of those who transformed the state into an own estate, we have to take again to the streets. It is even more serious now as we have to take to the streets in times of a pandemic. We have to take to the streets owing to offenders who, instead of staying in jail, sit in Parliament,” stated Maia Sandu.
The President-elect also said that the people showed in time that they are powerful and resistant. “I thank you warmly for this. We showed that we care about our country and our fate. We have taken to the streets for years in the fight against the thieves. And they will not make us stop here. We will go till the end,” noted the politician.
According to her, Parliament now does not include 51 decent MPs who would vote and support a Government that would work for the people. “Regrettably, Parliament now does not include 51 MPs who would care about the sorrows of the people of this country. That’s why we must organize snap elections as a result of which we would bring honest people to Parliament. And this Parliament should support a new Government that would solve people’s problems and the problems of pensioners, who do not have money for food and wood, and the problems faced by the farmers and the health system,” stated Maia Sandu.
“Chicu should resign the next few hours so that we could initiate snap elections.”
Thousands of people from Chisinau and from the country’s districts responded to President-elect Maia Sandu’s call and came to the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau to protest. The protesters chanted “We are the power”, “Maia Sandu and the people!”, “Snap elections”, “Down with the mafia!”, “In jail!”, “Shor and Dodon, into garbage bin!”.
The protesters demanded that the current Cabinet should resign and that snap parliamentary elections should be held. The mobilized police officers and carabineers formed a cordon around the Government Building. Vehicle traffic didn’t have access to the area.
