Maia Sandu: As from today, we no longer have problem of shortage of vaccines

The Republic of Moldova does no experience a shortage of vaccines against COVID-19 anymore, also due to the donations received from other states. “As from today, we no longer have the problem of shortage of vaccines,” President Maia Sandu stated in the evening of May 5, being quoted by IPN.

“A new donation of 100,000 vaccine doses from Romania was announced today. Today we also made public the agreement to purchase the necessary quantity of vaccines at the price paid by the EU reached with the authorities in Bucharest. [...] Also, after almost three months of discussions with the company Pfizer, we managed to obtain a response on the quantity and price they can offer to us. It’s true that the Pfizer vaccine will come later. AstraZeneca is available at present,” stated Maia Sandu.

According to the official, the number of vaccinated persons will influence the period when the restrictions will be lifted and the Moldovans could travel and enter the country. “We have now to persuade everyone to get vaccinated as this means saving lives and reopening the country, traveling and returning to normal economic activity. The higher the number of persons persuaded to get a vaccine is, the faster the restrictions will be lifted,” said President Sandu.

About 4% of Moldova’s population got vaccinated during two months.
