President Maia Sandu said that actions involving diversionists with military training, disguised in civvies, who would take violent actions, would stage attacks on state institutions and would take people hostage, are being planned. By actions presented as protests by the so-called opposition, they intend to overthrow the government in Chisinau, IPN reports.
In a press briefing, Maia Sandu said the state institutions confirmed the statements made by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky about Russia’s plans to destabilize the Republic of Moldova. “Russia’s plan to take subversive actions on the territory of our state is not something of a novelty. Attempts to destabilize the situation and to undermine the state were also made last autumn. But they didn’t achieve the objective owing to the prompt intervention of our security and public order institutions. In October-December last year, the police and the Security and Intelligence Service intervened in a number of cases of organizing of criminal elements and foiled attempts to use violence,” stated the official.
She noted that last autumn, emphasis was placed on the energy crisis that was to generate major dissatisfaction in society and to lead to violent protests. However, according to the plan for the immediate period, by violent actions hidden under protest by the so-called opposition, the government in Chisinau is to be changed by force.
President Maia Sandu also said that the documents received from the Ukrainian partners show that logistical aspects have been well planned to perform such subversive actions. People from outside the country are to be used to stage violent actions. For example, there were identified instructions about how to enter Moldova for citizens of Russia, Belarus, Serbia and Montenegro. “I assure you that the state institutions work to prevent such provocations and keep the situation under control,” stated the official.
“In the implementation of their plan, the authors bank on a number of internal forces, especially on criminal groups, such as the Shor Party and all its derivatives, some of the veterans, former employees of the law enforcement agencies and persons known for their ties with Plahotniuc. As I said, the goal of these actions is to upset the constitutional order, to substitute the legal government in Chisinau with an illegitimate one that would enable Russia to subjugate our country so as to stop the European integration process and to use Moldova in its war against Ukraine,” said Maia Sandu.
President Sandu called on the state institutions to be maximally vigilant. She asked Parliament to urgently adopt bills that would enable the SIS and the Prosecutor’s Office to more efficiently combat the risks to the country’s security. “All those who take part in such actions against the Republic of Moldova –-external elements, members of political parties and criminal groups, and all those who protect these - should be held accountable,” noted the official.
