President Maia Sandu in an official ceremony on Friday was handed over the credentials of the ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Romania to the Republic of Moldova Cristian-Leon Țurcanu, IPN reports.
According to the presidential press service, President Sandu welcomed the new ambassador of Romania to Moldova and wished him success in the fulfillment of his duties. Later, the officials exchanged opinions on the current bilateral relations between Moldova and Romania. They expressed their conviction that the very good dialogue existing between the two states will stimulate cooperation between Chisinau and Bucharest for the benefit of all the citizens.
Cristian-Leon Țurcanu is a career diplomat who had served as ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Romania to Ukraine since 2016. Earlier, he worked as an adviser for regional affairs and security policies at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in the Department for the Organization of the NATO Summit and the Schengen Programs Implementation Directorate.
Cristian-Leon Țurcanu served as a deputy of Romania’s Ambassador to Moldova in 2014-2015. He is married and has two children.
The decree to recall ex-Ambassador Daniel Ioniță, who completed his six-year term, was signed by the President of Romanian on February 4 this year.
