President Maia Sandu revealed a real scheme of vaccination with Pfizer outside the category eligible to be immunized. She said that tens of doses of Pfizer vaccine were administered to heads of institutions or to relatives of doctors, with these persons not forming part of the categories covered by the first vaccination stage. According to President Sandu, the corruption that became deep-rooted also in the COVID-19 vaccination process discourages the donors from offering Moldova free vaccines, IPN reports.
Under the national vaccination plan, the first immunization stage covers the employees of the health system and the beneficiaries and personnel of social services. However, Maia Sandu said there are many persons who got vaccinated with Pfizer even if they do not for part of these categories.
“I’m disappointed at such developments, at how the Pfizer vaccine was distributed. As we received a smaller lot of Pfizer vaccines, I requested that these should be distributed to old people’s homes and for older persons. 688 people who got the first dose of Pfizer are of the “relations” category. 139 are all kinds of employees of state institutions,” Maia Sandu stated in the talk show “Secrets of the Power” on Jurnal TV channel.
She noted that in many medical institutions, the Pfizer vaccine was administered to relatives of doctors. MPs, councilors, public servants got vaccinated outside their vaccination categories.
“This is shameful and discourages our effort to obtain other donations and to persuade the producers that we deserve to get the vaccine. This is a proof of corruption. At the family doctors center in Botanica, 64 doses were administered to persons outside the eligible category. It means these 64 persons are relatives. At the Bălți family doctors center, 71 doses were administered for the wrong purpose, in Cantemir – 35 doses went to all kinds of chiefs,” stated Maia Sandu.
On March 31, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection said the second vaccination stage started and this covers persons older than 60 and those with comorbidies.
