The social-political movement “European Action” (MAE) says that the introduction of the visa regime for Romanian nationals that want to enter Moldova is illegal and demands that the Government of Moldova cancel it. Otherwise, it will appeal the decision to national and international courts, if need be. At a news conference held at Info-Prim Neo on Thursday, the MAE president Anatol Petrencu said that neither President Vladimir Voronin nor the Government of Moldova have the right to adopt such decisions. “Such a decision can be taken by the new Parliament by amending the organic law on the abolition of the visa regime for the citizens of the EU member states, the United States, Canada, Switzerland and Japan,” Anatol Petrencu said. According to him, the introduction of the visa regime is a proof of the antidemocratic, anti-European and anti-Romania hysteria of the Moldovan communist regime, which became paranoid during the last days. The MAE leader said he would ask the Chisinau Municipal Council, at its next meeting, to consider naming a Chisinau street Valeriu Boboc, “who was the first hero that died for freedom as a result of the anti-Communist protests,” the party says in a statement. “This way, the name of this true martyr will remain in the city‘s history from after the April 7 anti-Communist uprising,” Petrencu said, calling on other parties to support the MAE’s idea. The MAE said that there is no evidence showing that Romania was involved in the organization of the April 7 protest. The party’s vice president Nicolae Rosca said that the evidence could be yet fabricated. Asked what they thought about President Vladimir Voronin’s statement that the persons arrested during the protests should be amnestied, the representatives of the MAE said that nothing was done yet and the young persons continue to be held and beaten so that they say nothing when they are released. “Don’t believe the Communists even if they make promises in written form,” Anatol Petrencu said. Nicolae Rosca added that the innocent young people should be immediately set free not amnestied because only the guilty persons that were tried can be amnestied. According to him, Voronin’s decision could be aimed at releasing the instigators, who are the real persons to blame. The MAE has announced it will picket today the Ministry of Internal Affairs for two hours in this connection.
