MAE runs in elections with own list of candidates
The European Action Movement (MAE) will take part in the early legislative elections with its own list of candidates. At a news conference on July 7, the organization’s president Anatol Petrencu said that the decision was made after talks to create a national list carried out with other parties had failed.
Earlier, the MAE considered several possibilities of running in elections. The participation with its own list was, according to the party, the worst variant, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Petrencu also said that the parties with which they held talks said neither “yes” nor “no”, delaying taking a decision.
The MAE said that in the current campaign it will have a clear anti-Communist position and will not attack the right-wing parties, but will make replies if need be, in emergencies.
“Our aim is to honorably represent every of the 3.6 million Moldovans impoverished by the Voronin clan that appropriates public money,” said the MAE president, who pledged to protect democracy and support the young persons that will offer Moldova the second chance.
Anatol Petrencu considers that the MAE will contribute to a stronger democracy in Moldova even if it does not pass the election threshold. The votes polled by the party will be distributed among the Democratic parties, Petrencu said, expressing his confidence that these parties would win the elections.
“I do not understand where this idea comes from: we want victory, but have the mentality of permanent opponents,” the MAE leader said, avoiding making electoral forecasts.
The MAE list includes persons that represent the National Romanian Party (PNR).
In the April 5 elections, the European Action Movement gained 1.01% of the vote. The election threshold was 6%. The party’s list contained representatives of the National Liberal Party and the PNR.
