“The European Action Movement (MAE) raises its sword against corruption in all the political parties,” its leader Anatol Petrencu stated at a news conference in Info-Prim Neo news agency, on March 18. “We are glad you've been close to us in this first stage, unlike other democratic parties, as the Liberal Party, which got completely isolated from our ideals,” Anatol Petrencu has thanked the leaders of the parties having signed 'The National Anti-Corruption Pact'. It's the Republican Party, the Liberal Democratic Party, the Moldova Noastra Alliance, the Democratic Party and “Moldova Unita”. The document was developed by the MAE and provides for anti-corruption measures that the signatories committed to enforce, if getting to power. MAE suspects that there may be “stained candidates” on the lists of the parties not having joined the initiative. That is why, it asks these parties “to clean the electoral lists from stains.” “We ask you to withdraw your political support offered to all those suspected of corruption, as signaled by the democratic media and the civil society,” said Petrencu. “The Voronin mafia clan must leave, but the Lucinschi mafia must not come. We have this feeling and we are not part of any of these clans. The MAE is not an electoral contestant under the control of any mafia-type clan,” stated Vitalia Pavlienco, the second on the MAE's list for the parliament. (The son of former president Petru Lucinschi, Chiril Lucinschi, is the fifth on the Democratic Party's list – e.n.) Vitalia Pavlicenco says media in Moldova would also be controlled by mafia clans. Anatol Petrencu, Vitalia Pavlicenco and Alexandra Can (the fourth on the MAE's list) signed a commitment at the press conference obliging themselves to resign from their possible offices as parliamentarians, if their votes are offered in the favor of a candidate for the Moldovan Presidency, supported by any Communist party or its allies. They said they are certain they won't vote for a Communist president, but they want to tender this commitment to be signed by candidates from other parties, “to prevent the repetition of a new April 4, 2005.” (MPs from the People's Christian-Democratic Party, from the Democratic Party and from the Social-Liberal Party gave their votes to elect Vladimir Voronin, the Communists' leader, as President – e.n.) “Certainly, overwhelmingly, the political clientele of the PCRM hides behind the most dubious affairs, but this does not mean we shall not sanction the temptation for the public money that representatives of pro-European parties displayed in certain situations. Only this way we'll be able to demonstrate to the people that we are different from the Communists not just in our will to lead Moldova to the club of the countries with real democracy, but also in our will not to sell ourselves out for 30 silver coins, as some of our brethren already did,” reads a press release of the European Action Movement.
