MAE: PCRM shirked responsibility

The European Action Movement (MAE) considers that the Opposition party's refusal to vote in the head of state on December 7 runs counter to Moldovan people's wish to have a democratic government. The party made public its stance after the second attempt to elect the Alliance for European Integration's presidential candidate Marian Lupu as President failed, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Leaving the Parliament's assembly hall, the PCRM showed again its true face, of party nostalgic for the past that does not want to see Moldova's democratization and modernization,” the MAE says in a press release. The party considers that the refusal to take part in the vote represents the start of the PCRM's dismemberment. It recommends the Alliance to immediately initiate reforms that can bring Moldova closer to the EU. According to the MAE, the Communists Party is afraid of the day when it will have to answer for the committed irregularities. “We must not forget what the PCRM did while in power. It violated the human rights and freedoms, appropriated and monopolized businesses, prevented progress on the path to European integration, brought discredit on the legal system, intimidated the independent press,” the party says. The MAE calls on the leaders of the Alliance for European Integration to attentively analyze the possibility of amending the Constitution. “The necessity of clarifying the procedure for electing the head of state is now more urgent, but this should be done democratically.”
