MAE: No foreign soldiers are allowed in the country. There are 1500 Russian servicemen, according to BPR

No foreign soldier stationed illegally has the right to be in our country, and the Russian army must be completely and unconditionally withdrawn, according to the international commitments undertaken by the Russian Federation. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has provided clarifications in this regard in the context of statements made by Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski at the Munich Security Conference on the number of Russian servicemen in the Transnistrian region.

The MAE recalls that the Republic of Moldova has always demanded the complete and unconditional withdrawal of Russian troops from the left bank of the Dniester and respect for international commitments.

At the same time, according to the Reintegration Policy Bureau, the Russian Operational Group of Troops (GOTR) has almost 1500 Russian servicemen, the number of which is estimated by the authorities in Chisinau, more precisely by the national institutions responsible for the defense sector. The BPR emphasizes that the GOTR, formed on the remnants of the USSR's 14th Army, is on the territory of the Republic of Moldova without the consent of the state and in violation of the Constitution on neutrality and existing international commitments.

Military issues concerning the eastern districts of the Republic of Moldova (liquidation of the ammunition depot in Cobasna, withdrawal of GOTR servicemen without the right to stay on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, transformation of the peacekeeping mission on the Dniester into a civilian one under international monitoring) are not subject of the Chisinau-Tiraspol negotiations and are not discussed on the platforms of dialog with Tiraspol.

The BPR also said that "as regards the Russian military contingent of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces (FMMP), it operates in the Security Zone on the basis of the Agreement on the Principles of Peaceful Settlement of the Armed Conflict in the Transnistrian Region of the Republic of Moldova, signed on July 21, 1992 by then Presidents Mircea Snegur and Boris Yeltsin. According to the Reintegration Office, the FMMP is being monitored by the Unified Control Commission, which includes delegations from the Republic of Moldova, the Russian Federation and the Transnistrian region, as well as representatives of Ukraine and the OSCE Mission to Moldova".
