MAE looking for solutions
The European Action Movement (MAE) is considering several solutions which would enable it to participate in the early parliamentary elections on July 29. The president of the party, Anatol Petrencu, told a news conference on Tuesday that participating by itself would be “the worst solution”.
Petrencu said negotiations were underway with the Liberal Party (PL), the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) and the Moldova Noastra Alliance (AMN) to find common ground.
“The best case would be drafting a common list to include the 41 deputies that entered Parliament after the April 5 elections, plus the candidates from the extra-parliamentary opposition parties”, he suggested, adding that the list should include at least 2 or 3 members of the MAE.
When asked whether seeking a common list wasn't too late, since the PL the PLDM and the AMN have already registered separately for participation in the polls, Anatol Petrencu recalled that changes to the lists were allowed until July 7. “Things change every day”, he said.
Other solutions considered by the MAE are creating a common list together with anther extra-parliamentary party, or creating a list with one of the parliamentary opposition parties, provided that the particular parliamentary party covers all the costs of the campaign. The MAE also doesn't rule out the possibility to field an independent candidate.
Petrencu went on to add that the MAE hasn't considered a partnership with the centrist parties because they “haven't showed firm signs of being anticommunists”.
