MAE initiates public debates on introduction of religion in schools

The European Action Movement (MAE) will hold public debates on the introduction of religion as compulsory subject in schools. Church officials, experts, teachers and parents will take part in them, the organization's vice president, MP Iurie Colesnic said. The MAE considers there must be taught religion not Orthodoxy classes. The initiation of public debates on the introduction of religion as mandatory subject in schools is a quicker and cheaper alternative to holding the referendum proposed by representatives of the Metropolitan Church of Chisinau and all Moldova, the party says in a communique, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. “A bill was formulated on the given issue, which is backed by the Metropolitan Church of Chisinau and all Moldova It will be discussed at the public debates as there is a lot of room for improvements,” said Vasile Chitoroaga, the head of the Cults Department of the MAE.
