The European Action Movement (MAE) Party has launched today a new logo and a new anthem in preparations for the local general elections in 2011, Info-Prim Neo reports. The new MAE’s logo features a key, while the party’s traditional white flag is now lined with two purple stripes. MAE president Veaceslav Untila has told today’s meeting of the MAE National Council the key on the logo is “the key to success, to the European Union”. According to MAE vice-president Anatol Petrencu, the purple color brings luck. “They say purple is a powerful color. Even Romania’s President Traian Basecu was said to have won the elections because he was wearing a purple tie”, said Anatol Petrencu. The party’s Council also discussed the potential candidates in the local elections. “We wish the party to be represented by elites, teachers, opinion leaders, ambitious young people”, said Veaceslav Untila. The MAE leader declared that, being part of the Alliance for European Integration together with MAE vice-president MP Colesnic, they shared the brunt of the government, with all its problems. “Political instability is affecting us all. We don’t know when early parliamentary elections will be called, but we must be ready”, declared Untila. Untila added he would argue in Parliament in favor of lowering the threshold required for political parties to win seats in the legislative to 3 percent, as opposed to 4 percent proposed in a bill that passed first reading. In the April 2009 elections, MAE won slightly more than one percent of the popular vote.
