Five years after the demolition of the Chisinau-based Teodosiu Mansion, young members of the European Action Movement (MAE) and the party's administration demand that the Communists Party rebuild the destroyed architectural monument. On August 11, the MAE staged a flashmob meeting themed “Communists, Destroyers of Cultural Heritage”. The young persons lit candles at the place where the Mansion was and carried a placard with the words “Voronin – the Prosecutor's Office is with Us, Reconstruct the Teodosiu Mansion!”, Info-Prim Neo reports. MAE leader Veaceslav Untila said the Teodosiu Mansion was demolished illegally. In 2005, the then Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev made an ordinance to remove the Teodosiu Mansion from the list of architectural monuments, but this wasn't done. It means that when it was destroyed it was a monument protected by the state. “We demand that those who are to blame for the demolition of the Teodosiu Mansion be held accountable and forced to reconstruct the building,” Veaceslav Untila said. The first vice president of the MAE Anatol Petrencu said this monument was destroyed because it hindered Vladimir Voronin's plans. According to him, the building must be restored and transformed into a museum. Historian Iurie Colesnic, vice president of the MAE, said the Teodosiu family was a noble one. The Mansion hosted balls and meetings of the Romanian Bessarabian elite. “This building is an architectural jewel. Its demolition was a crime committed by the Communists,” Colesnic said. The young members of the MAER brought a picture of the Teodosiu Mansion, saying about 100 architectural monuments had been destroyed while the Communists Party governed Moldova. The Teodosiu Mansion was built in 1836 by the design of architect Alexandru Bernadazzi.
