Luxembourg to help Moldova strengthen its European steps

Luxembourg is willing to help Moldova strengthen its European steps, while Moldova should promote the joint European values, Jean Asselborn, deputy-prime minister, minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration of Luxembourg said during a meeting with Moldovan Speaker Marian Lupu. The European Union should play an important role in Moldova and assist it via an intelligent and balanced policy, Asselborn said. According to the European official, the citizens of Moldova, especially the young ones, should enjoy the possibility to learn more about the EU member states, including the advantages and problems of their societies. In this respect, the Luxembourgian premier welcomed the opening in Chisinau of the Joint Visa Issuance Centre, saying that Luxembourg is willing to participate in its activity. Marian Lupu asked Luxembourg for political support in negotiating a new legal framework with EU, after the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement expires, an agreement which would open to Moldova a clear European perspective and would politically encourage the Moldovan society. The Speaker pleaded for the support of Luxembourg in negotiating new technical and financial assistance instruments with a view to implementing economic reforms and strengthening the democratic institutions.
