Lupu says he won't resign

Speaker Marian Lupu will not tender his resignation as demanded by the Communist Party on grounds that he didn't act on its formal request to summon an extraordinary meeting of Parliament. “I have not the slightest intention of resigning. I see no good reason why I should do that. With the end of the summer recess on September 1, Parliament is in full ordinary session. The request to convoke an extraordinary meeting is just a political maneuver that aims to destabilize the situation”, Marian Lupu told reporters on Tuesday. The Communist Party has argued that it was Lupu's duty to convoke a meeting called by a large group such as the Communists, for which violation he should be investigated by the General Prosecutor's Office. Earlier this month, the Communists submitted a formal request for an extraordinary meeting in Parliament to consider Moldova's accession to the Russia-Kazakhstan Belarus Customs Union.
