Lupu says discussion with Barroso was constructive and not at all pink in color
The discussions within the meeting of the European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso with Speaker Marian Lupu and a number of MPs were constructive and not at all pink in color. There were discussed the serious problems faced by Moldova, Marian Lupu said after the meeting, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“This visit is a sign of encouragement for the political class to continue the reforms promoted by the parliamentary majority and a gesture of encouragement for the whole society. I told him that we do not make these changes for the sake of Brussels, but because this is the path to development. We were assured that we will continue to receive assistance and this support will be not only political, but also economic and financial,” said Marian Lupu.
He also said that they discussed the monitoring and transparency in using the European funds. “There was confirmed the commitment to finish the negotiations on the Association Agreement by next autumn and to sign it then. As to the liberalization of the visa regime, when we show pace and quality in the implementation of reforms, we will come to the signing of the agreement ourselves,” said the Head of Parliament.
The meeting wasn’t attended by representatives of the Communist parliamentary group. “We informed the official that they decided themselves not to come, as they were invited. It is regrettable that they were absent, but their absence did not shadow our discussions,” stated Marian Lupu.
Referring to the fact that no representative of the Transnistrian administration was invited to the meeting, Marian Lupu said that the organizers of the visit probably took into account another experience, when an invitation sent to the administration wasn’t accepted. However, Marian Lupu considers that the Transnistrians’ participation would have been beneficial and like a message for them.
