The head of the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) Marian Lupu announced that the party he heads formulated a number of proposals concerning the post of head of state and the depoliticization of the law enforcement bodies in the negotiations on the formation of a government coalition, but these proposals were accepted only by theor colleagues from the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM), not yet by those from the Liberal Party (PL). In a press briefing on January 22, Marian Lupu said the only solution for unblocking the talks that lasted for almost two months is for the PLDM to assume governance together with the PDM. He thus reiterated the call made to the PLDM in this respect, IPN reports.
“We must form a government and we consider that this can be created based on a political alliance between the Democratic Party and the Liberal Democratic Party,” said the leader of the PDM.
Marian Lupu also said that in the last round of the talks, the PDM proposed that the post of head of state should not be offered to a member of the coalition. The PLDM supported this proposal, but the PL rejected it. The PDM also proposed depoliticizing the law enforcement bodies by creating a commission that during this year would put forward a set of mechanisms that would be later discussed with the EU. But this proposal was also rejected by the Liberals.
The Democratic leader said that there were no disagreements as regards the distribution of the posts of Premier and Head of Parliament at the talks. As to the ministries, the PL demanded managing the Ministry of Transport, but the PDM didn’t accept this demand and proposed that the Liberals should manage the Ministry of Labor, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Ministry of Justice. However, the Liberals do not want to assume concrete responsibilities.
