Interior Minister Andrei Nastase says that proceedings were started to investigate Iurii Luncașu’s death by a gunshot wound in the head as an intentional murder, in addition to the suicide trail. This was confirmed by the acting Prosecutor General Dumitru Robu, IPN reports.
"A criminal case has been filed pursuant to article 145 of the Criminal Code, so that it allows the examination of all aspects of this case, which, of course, raises a lot of questions in the light of the fact that he is not a simple citizen, but a person close to Vladimir Plahotniuc and his criminal group”, Andrei Năstase told RFE/RL Moldovan Service.
"The investigative press even talked about this person's activities in the field of cigarette import and export, in the real estate fields, which is why none of the possible trails are excluded and I appreciate the way the police and the Prosecutor's Office decided to handle the case," said the minister.
Responding to the journalists' questions during a press conference, acting Prosecutor General Dumitru Robu confirmed that the case is also being treated as a potential murder. He refused to provide further details.
