Moldova's Ion Luchianov finished 10th in the 3000m steeplechase final at the London Olympics on Sunday, running the race in 8 minutes 28.15 seconds and outperforming his result in Beijing, where he placed 12th. Also on Sunday, Moldova's Natalia Cerchez finished the woman’s marathon 65th out of 118 runners, marking a personal record of 2 hours 37 minutes and 13 seconds. In other athletics events, Moldova's colors will be represented in the coming days by Zalina Marghiev (hammer thrown), Elena Popescu (women's 800m), Iaroslav Mulinschi and Roman Prodius (men's marathon). No Moldovan athlete is scheduled to compete today, August 6. So far Moldova won two bronze medals, both in weightlifting, by Cristina Iovu and Anatol Ciricu. China leads the medal table with 30 gold, 17 silver and 14 bronze. Moldova shares the 54th place with Greece, both holding two bronze medals.
