LP seeks to cancel decision on the reorganisation of “Antena C” and “Euro TV Chisinau”
The Liberal Party requests the Chisinau Municipal Council to review its decision to reorganize the municipal radio and television stations and to urgently remove the broadcasting problems at “Antena C”. LP representatives condemned on Thursday, December 21, at a press conference, the actions of intimidating the journalists and the government party’s interference in the editorial policy of “Antena C” and “Euro TV Chisinau”.
In a statement issued for the press, the LP disputes the reorganisation of the municipal broadcaster without cooperating openly and transparently with the civil society. The LP vice chairman Dorin Chirtoaca stated that in compliance with the European principles, the democratic reforms must be drawn up and implemented in cooperation with the civil society. Accordingly, the decision on the reorganisation of the municipal stations “Antena C” and “Euro TV” by putting them for sale have to be openly discussed with the citizens. As Chirtoaca states, the government party abusively tries to take over control over the capital on the eve of the local elections, with a view for mediating their propagandistic messages, promoting their image and distorting reality.
The LP representative says that the journalists’ intimidation and threat to dismiss those who put up resistance to the forced reorganisation and do not want to comply with the conditions imposed by the new leadership, and the groundless cessation of “Antena C”, is one more proof that the communist government, European values such as “freedom of press”, “human rights” and “democracy” are not but speech subjects intended to impress the Council of Europe.
The Liberal Party asserts that the process of reorganizing the municipal broadcaster will legislate against the Moldovan leadership’s interference in the editorial policy of “Antena C” and “Euro TV Chisinau” and will limit the citizens’ access to complete and impartial information.
