The Liberal Party (LP) considers that the idea of the National Liberal Party (NLP) to create the Interstate Union Romania – Moldova imperils the unitary character of the Romanian state, the leader of the party Mihai Ghimpu stated on March 14. According to him, this initiative looks like the memorandums of the Russian Federation on the federalisation of Moldova put forward in 1997 and 2003, the difference is that this time it is promoted the dismembering of Romania, not only of Moldova. According to Ghimpu, the initiative of the NLP is an attack against Romania, carried out together with the attacks of the government party. Ghimpu condemned the “Romanian-phobia” policy of the government and said that it wants Moldova to stay not only outside EU, but also Romania, by not fulfilling in due time the reforms and the measures necessary for aligning with the European standards. LP asserts that the attacks of the government party and NLP against Romania are carried out at the same time and through apparently different means, however having obviously the same target – Romania. NLP publicised on Tuesday the Appeal on the necessity of making a national common cause. In NLP’s view, the concept of the Interstate Union could include the creation in stages of the bodies responsible for the coordination of the policies necessary to this structure, as a Parliamentary Assembly, composed of thirty MPs from each state, which will come together to periodical sessions in Bucharest and Chisinau and which will deal with harmonisation and homogenisation of Moldova’s legislation. At the same time, the interstate executive Commission, headquartered in Iasi and made up of an equal number of representatives of the Governments in Bucharest and Chisinau, could succeed in implementing the Joint Budget, policies on Moldova’s EU membership, obtaining and carrying out a mini-plan Marshall to settle the Transnistrian dispute and rehabilitate the social-economic situation in the post-conflict period of Moldova etc.
