Low turnout blamed on poor campaigning
A couple of hours before the polling stations will close at 21:00, it is unlikely that the voter turnout will amount to the one-third threshold required for the referendum to be deemed valid, and independent expert Vitali Catana blames it on poor campaigning.
“The people haven't turned out for the poll because the referendum campaign was totally neglected. We don't have politicians, but VIPs who don't know anything about politics, nor can they listen to experts and other wise people” , Vitali Catana told Info-Prim Neo.
Vitali Catana blames the Alliance for European Integration most of all. “The people should have been informed, but this wasn't done. The Alliance's parties took it for granted that the referendum would pass and failed”.
The expert also thinks that the Communist Party had a stronger argumentation, was more convincing and resourceful in staging its boycott than the poorly substantiated efforts by the Alliance member-parties.
“People are now concerned with their household chores, but if they had been better informed, they would have taken part in the poll”.
The voter turnout at 18:45 was slightly over 24 percent, 9 short of the validation threshold.
