Long imprisonment term for trafficking in persons
The Supreme Court of Justice sentenced to imprisonment two women accused of trafficking in human beings, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to sources in the Prosecutor General’s Office, Babcinscaia Anita, 32, and Nejel Viorica, 27, were found guilty of human trafficking and sentenced to 12 years in prison, including fine of 400 conventional units, and, respectively, 10 years in jail.
The prosecutors proved that in November 2005, the two women recruited two girls from a village in Ialoveni district, lying to them that they will be employed as barwomen. After legalizing the necessary documents, the traffickers accommodated the two young women in an apartment in Chisinau and transported them later to Turkey by plane.
At the destination, the victims were met by Turkish nationals and forced to practice prostitution for eight months. The court’s decision is definitive.
The same sources informed that the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office took to court a man accused of misuse of power.
According to prosecutors, at the end of 2007, the man asked 10,000 US dollars from the female owner of a building in exchange for the signature of the chief architect of Soroca town on the report of acceptance of a construction adjoining a drugstore.
If found guilty, the man could face five to ten years behind bars and fine of 500 to 1,500 conventional units.
