Lockups for minors of Chisinau Penitentiary No. 13 closed
The lockup rooms for minors of the Chisinau Penitentiary No. 13 have been closed, the prison's head Victor Petrachi has told Info-Prim Neo. The penitentiary's administration pledged to do it after the French Senator Robert Badinter visited the prisons on April 16.
According to Victor Petrachi, the minors are now subjected to disciplinary punishment in the ordinary cells of the penitentiary. But before this, they are remanded. If they do not change their behavior, they are punished.
The administration has not yet decided what to do with the closed lockups that are in the basement.
While in Chisinau, Robert Badinter also asked the authorities to close the penitentiary located on Alexandru Bernardazzi St as soon as possible and open a cultural center instead of it.
The Penitentiary No. 13 was built in 1846. Minors older than 15 are held there.
