Local tariffs on transportation of freight through Giurgiulesti Port to be instituted

The tariffs on the transportation of freight through the Giurgiulesti Free International Airport must be approved by the Government, not Moldova’s Railways (CFM), considers Minister of Economy Valeriu Lazar, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a working meeting of the Government, Valeriu Lazar said that the main problem faced by the companies that perform export-import operations through the Giurgiulesti Port is the fact that the CFM applies the international freight transportation tariffs. According to the minister, there is no legal reason for using these tariffs as the whole transportation operation is carried out on Moldova’s territory. Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure Anatolie Salaru said that local tariffs on the transportation of freight inside the country should be instituted. The difficult situation in which the railway company is now is a consequence of the previous government, non-adjustment of the tariffs to the current requirements and non-renovation of the train and equipment depot. Prime Minister Vlad Filat made an order to set up an interministerial commission that will adjust the tariffs on the freight and passenger rail transportation and will work out a new policy in the field. He also said that the heavy vehicles should be redirected from the national roads to the railroads so as to increase the incomes of CFM and prevent the erosion of the roads.
