Chsinau’s general mayor Dorin Chirtoaca signed the European Gender Charter for the local life at the City Hall’s sitting of March 3, Info-Prim Neo reports. The request to sign the document by the Chisinau City Hall was made by Daniela Terzi-Barabrosie, the executive manager of the Partnership and Development Center. She has said that, during 6 months, the Center members, together with the City Hall representatives are to draft an activity plan regarding the promotion of the gender equality at the local level. After the document is compiled, the next stage will consist in approving of and adopting it by the Municipal Council. In this respect, the Center will assist the City Hall to carry out the plan. The representative of the Center underlines that this instrument, the European Charter is not political, neither legal. It implies the active civic involvement of a local public authority into promoting the gender equality between women and men. In May 2006, the European Council for municipalities and regions decided, together with the European Commission, to draft a European Charter stipulating certain requirements and recommendations as for the promotion of the gender equality at the level of local public authority. Daniela Terzi-Barabrosie has said now there are 500 European localities which signed the aforementioned document.
