Local elections to cost MDL 34 mln
The Central Election Committee approved on Friday, March 30, the list of expenses for the general local elections (June 3). It amounts to MDL 33.9 mln.
According to the chairman of CEC Eugen Stirbu, about MDL 18.5 mln were allotted for the organisation of elections. The rest of the sum, of over MDL 15 mln will be covered by the Reserve Fund of the Government.
CEC examined on April 30 the expenses to be transferred to the electoral fund of the candidates. It was proposed to set the sum at MDL 4 mln. The sums for the independent candidates was proposed to be set at: MDL 150 thousand for the candidates running for mayor in villages, MDL 200 thousand – in cities, towns and municipalities, and MDL 300 thousand – in the municipality of Chisinau.
In 2005, MDL 1 mln was the sum established for the candidates running for mayor. Most probably, a final decision will be made by CEC next week, following consultations with political parties.
The candidates for the elections organised on June 3 will be registered after the creation of the Constituency Councils, but not later than April 14. The list of those 27 political parties which can participate in the elections will be published on the official webpage of CEC.
