The local elected officials of the Liberal-Democratic Party (PLDM), who came together for the third Forum of Local Elected Officials in Ungheni, adopted a resolution by which they condemn all the attempts to thwart Moldova’s European course. The Lib-Dems call upon society to join in the efforts to develop and modernize the country by integration into the EU, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from the PLDM.
Liberal-Democratic leader Vlad Filat said that Moldova has no other alternative to the European integration and the politicians must be closer to the people. “In the future, we should be more united and closer to the people, providing the necessary information so that the people see what we’ve done since we founded the party in 2007. We then saw clearly that our country has no other alternative than to be European by implementing profound reforms and taking very clear actions to modify the legal framework and the way the institutions work in our country,” he stated.
Prime Minister Iurie Leanca, who is the deputy chairman of the PLDM, underlined the necessity of establishing closer cooperation relations between the local elected officials and the people as the real modernization of Moldovan society must start with the local public administration.
The resolution adopted in the Forum of Local Elected Officials of the PLDM says the integration into the EU will enable Moldova to implement a model of administration and local development that would best meet the needs and interests of the people. “We call on society to join in the efforts to develop and modernize the country by integration into the EU. This is for the direct benefit of every citizen, regardless of their ethnicity, religion, the language they speak and the region they represent,” reads the resolution,”
The local elected officials of the PLDM assumed responsibility for continuing the implementation of projects to modernize the towns and villages, to contribute to the decentralization of power and to strengthen local autonomy. The forum involved over 900 Liberal-Democratic local elected officials of the over 3,700.
