Local authorities will organize raids to prevent illegal street trading

Though the sale of meat pies in the street was banned from June 1, they continue to be sold in some parts of Chisinau, said deputy mayor Mihai Furtuna. The inspections showed that about 1,300 companies continue to work even though their licenses expired. So far, the local authorities have made 108 ordinances to withdraw or suspend the licenses. Working groups will be set up in several days to regulate street trading. They will include police officers as well. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, the head of the Municipal Preventive Medicine Center Iurie Panzaru said he personally monitored the sale of meat pies and saw the number of booths decreased significantly. Mihai Furtuna said the number of stalls selling ice-cream and soft drinks increases in summer. There are about 500 such stalls in Chisinau at present. But not all the companies have licenses. Under an order made by the Mayor General of Chisinau, the licenses for selling soft drinks, kvass and ice-cream in the street in summer will be issued by the district heads' offices on the basis of the sanitary authorizations granted by the Municipal Preventive Medicine Center. An order will be made on June 14 to set up farmers markets in all the districts of the municipality of Chisinau.
