Local authorities of Chisinau municipality solicit the involvement of the business environment and civil society in drafting General Urban Plan (PUG) of the Capital. The decision on creating a strategic committee for drafting PUG, in which non-governmental organizations and businessmen of Moldova will be represented, was approved on Thursday, May18, by the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC). According to the interim head of the Land Department, Nicolae Craciun, it is important to convene the society in a committee where the local authorities will have the task to manage PUG and business environment and civil society to implement it, formulate own proposals and collect citizens’ proposals. The latter ones, in his opinion, are very important and will allow avoiding mistakes in setting a development strategy of Chisinau municipality. Craciun also noted that it is planned to organize a presentation of the first stage of PUG and to arrange for surveys. The interim mayor of Chisinau municipality, Vasile Ursu is positive that citizens will call to make different proposals to this strategic committee, and this structure will start to work the next days. On the other hand, Ursu notes that central authorities do not get involved directly in PUG drafting, only with some suggestions. On 22 May, it will be finalized the task agenda and set the schedule of PUG drafting, as well as assessing the first stage of the plan’s drafting, including 3 basic documents: social-economic strategy; scheme on organizing transport in the central zone and the regulation on intervention in central area. The General Urban Plan is drafted by the National Institute of Researches and Designing in the Field of Territory Maintenance, Urbanism and Architecture „Urban-Proiect”, starting autumn last year. Finishing PUG is scheduled for the beginning of 2007.
