Local administration concerned about large number of drowned persons

The persons that swim outside recreational areas endanger their lives, the deputy mayor of Chisinau Vlad Cotet said at a meeting of the City Hall on Monday. He reiterated the proposal that the Emergencies Division should take over the lifeguard stations. Presently, they are administered by the Green Spaces Association, Info-Prim Neo reports. The large number of persons that drowned aroused the local administration’s concern Last week, specialists of the Chisinau Emergences Division carried out inspections at the recreational areas in the municipality and established that all the beaches there are equipped and ready to provide first aid in case of drowning. The head of the Green Spaces Association Eliferie Haruta said that posters have been placed near the municipal ponds, informing about the condition of the ponds and banning swimming. There are also indicated the areas supervised by the lifeguard teams. The persons that swim outside the outfitted beaches are in danger as those areas are not supervised. Another problem in ensuring public order near recreational areas, according to Haruta, is the lack of parking lots near green areas. “The problem of illegally parked cars cannot be solved even by the police as there are no spaces for such a purpose,” he said. Deputy mayor Nistor Grozavu, who is acting as Mayor General until Dorin Chirtoaca returns, instructed the Green Spaces Association and the Architecture and Urbanism Division to identify places for parking near ponds and recreational areas.
