The living conditions remain the greatest dissatisfaction of the population, Head of Parliament Igor Corman said in the program “Public Eye” on Noroc TV channel, IPN reports.

“The people see that the roads and social facilities are being repaired with European funds and that the country is modernized. However, until the salaries do not satisfy people’s needs, the population will be dissatisfied. It’s true that since 2008 the average salary has increased by 45%, but prices have also risen significantly,” said the Speaker.

Igor Corman admitted that the current government didn’t pay maximum attention to the given problem because the government coalition focused more on the European integration and wasted too much time on disputes inside the coalition. The results of the justice sector reform and in fighting corruption are among other shortcomings of the ruling alliance. “At least we woke up now and found solutions to these problems. The reforms that started to be implemented last year already produce results,” he stated.

According to the Head of Parliament, the level of people’s confidence in the current government is not the desired one mainly because there is no communication, including about the Association Agreement with the EU. “We didn’t speak enough about this accord. The ordinary people do not know its benefits. We must come with a clear message and explain what this accord means to the people. We must go on and there is no way back. This accord is for Moldova’s benefit and is the only way of gaining access to the European funds. There is no other way out,” he said.

Asked if the Democratic Party, of which the Speaker forms part, will form an alliance with the Communist Party after the elections if the latter declares itself pro-European, Igor Corman avoided giving an explicit answer, saying he hopes that this party will not enter Parliament after this November’s elections.
