The Lithuanian Embassy in Chisinau and the Free International University of Moldova (ULIM) Thursday opened an exhibition titled “Way to Freedom”, dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Baltic Way action, when over one million people joined the capitals of the three Baltic states – Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania - on their path to freedom, holding their hands, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The way to freedom in Lithuania came into being in the hearts of every Lithuanian and contributed to many victories and to decades of prosperity. I was 14 years old, when I heard such words as sacrifice, national language, truth, human rights whispered in my family. In 1989, the Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian people uttered these words loudly when they held their hand together and formed a human chain that joined the three capitals. One quarter of the Lithuania’s population took to the streets then,” said Kestutis Vaskeleviciu, charge d’affaires at the Embassy of Lithuania. “Lithuania is a young country and this exhibition was set up on its birthday. By our own example, we want to help the people know this country better,” said the ULIM rector Andrei Galben. “By joint actions, Moldova and Lithuania will manage to come closer and will more actively contribute to the Europeanization process,” he said. A lecture room of Lithuania will be opened at ULIM later today. It will contain different teaching and informative materials about the economy, politics, social and legal systems of Lithuania. University lecturer Pavel Parasca said that the exhibition of pictures and documents about Lithuania’s history immortalizes the heroic act of the Lithuania, Estonian and Latvian people that managed to preserve their national pride and contributed to their national revival.
