Lithuania will donate 11,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines to the Republic of Moldova, President Maia Sandu announced after a meeting with her Lithuanian counterpart Gitanas Nauseda. The type of vaccine wasn’t specified, IPN reports.
In another development, Maia Sandu said that owing to the insistent approaches made by Lithuania, such countries as Moldova could swiftly benefit from vaccines from the supplies of the European Union.
“In this connation, I thank you for the direct assistance offered by your country to Moldova in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, in the form of donations of protective equipment,” stated President Sandu.
About 5% of Moldova’s population was vaccinated against the novel coronavirus by now. 0.6% of the population got both of the vaccine doses. So far Moldova received over 785,000 doses of vaccine and is to get another lot, of 45,000 AstraZeneca vaccine doses, though the COVAX Facility on May 24.
