Lit cigarette causes new victim
A man aged 54 from Iargara town of Leova district died from carbon monoxide poisoning in his own bed in a fire caused by a lit cigarette. The fires blamed on reckless smoking claimed 76 lives this year, Info-prim Neo reports.
According to the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, the fire broke out at about 10.00 and damaged partly the bedclothes. The body of the man was found by his wife. The preliminary cause of the fire is careless smoking.
Another fire caused by a lit cigarette occurred in a house in Scumpia village of Falesti district. The fire destroyed things in a room. The firefighters extinguished the fire and saved the 74-year-old owner and her son aged 35. The woman was hospitalized with carbon monoxide poisoning.
The 2,070 fires that happened in Moldova this year ended in 143 deaths. Six of the victims were children.
