Things change irremediably on the European continent and the referendum on the UK’s exit from the EU, in which slightly over half of the participants voted ‘in favor’, means that Moldova practically cannot dream of a possible entry into the EU, considers foreign policy expert Lina Grau.

Contacted by IPN, Lina Grau said those who say that the results of the plebiscite will not have an impact on Moldova are not right. “From economic viewpoint, it means uncertainty on the European labor market and problems for the people who work abroad and fuel the Moldovan economy with remittances. At internal level, I think the euro will depreciate and any instability of this kind will prevent serious investments in the development of the economy,” stated the expert.

As to the political aspect, Lina Grau said the impact will be major even if Moldova is on the outskirts of the EU. “Things seems very sad to me. I think what happens now in the EU means farewell to the European dream for our generation. I consider we should reproach the political class for failing to bring the country closer to the EU. We should criticize especially the so-called pro-European parties, which should now withdraw from politics,” she noted.

In the June 23 referendum in the UK, about 52% of those who took part in it voted for the UK to leave the European Union.
