Lilia Snegureac, secretary of the Civil Society Platform “Pro-Europa”, stated that the current government does not know what democracy and democratic institutions mean and does not know to hold a political and social dialogue. In the public debate “The pro-European government: ‘labor pains’ and quality of society in the role of ‘midwife’”, which was organized by IPN News Agency in partnership with Radio Moldova, Lilia Snegureac said the current ruling parties made use of civil society in the election campaign.
“In the really democratic societies, civil society is heard and is consulted, and not only from time to time. In our country civil society makes effort to do many things. I have the feeling that before the elections and after them, civil society had been simply used. It was used in someone’s interests and this is our blame as we were unable to manage things in a different way,” stated Lilia Snegureac.
She noted that to a great extent civil society is dispersed and a solution is to join up and to make effort to change things. There is a law and there is democracy and the fact that these things are not respected causes dissatisfaction among the people, which could turn into protests. If protests are staged, there is a danger that certain interested sides will make use of the situation and will stage provocations.
The public debate entitled “The pro-European government: ‘labor pains’ and quality of society in the role of ‘midwife’” is the 37th of the series of debates “Development of political culture in public debates” that are staged with the support of the German foundation Hanns Seidel.
